SQL FileTable

Everyone has files to manage, maintain, and access. We have recently incorporated SQL File Tables into our core data model to improve how all of these are accomplished for our customers. What does this mean for you?

  • Any file attachments in OrderStream previously required user access to its location. SQL File Tables make this a thing of the past. Access the files stored from anywhere.
  • Centralized file systems. Gone are the days of learning that the file attachment you’re trying to open was actually on someone’s desktop or has gone to the recycle bin. All files can be managed by SQL Server to ensure they are properly catalogued, stored, and always available.
  • Web usage. Uploading and accessing documents and images when on site or out of office is no longer a challenge.
  • Future possibilities. With some setup, full-text searching becomes a possibility. Looking for a file you attached 3 months ago, but can only recall a sentence fragment from it? With full text indexing, one can query that data’s contents, not just file names and paths.

    Did You Know?

MS Office and Excel Aren’t Required

Excel is well known for its capabilities in calculating complex rules, which is why it’s been the engine behind Seradex Configurator, Customer and Vendor Price List automation for years. This used to mean that order entry users and purchasers would need Excel installed to calculate your business rules behind the scenes. It also adds additional costs, now every month for most business users. We’ve eliminated that requirement for users of our system.

  • Web configurator runs directly from OrderStream without Excel, faster, more functional, and with better user experience.
  • Both Customer and Vendor Price List also run without the need for Excel installed on a client machine.
  • Your logic is still created and maintained in your Excel templates; this isn’t a redo, but a newer approach to how your rules are read and calculated. Only those administrating and maintaining your Excel logic need Excel access.
  • Advanced Search can now export to a file path without opening Excel. This means you can pass these along, use them as a data source, or work with them in alternative spreadsheet software.
  • What about One-Click email? Doesn’t that require Outlook installation? Not anymore, it doesn’t. If Outlook is not installed for a user needing to send out quotes, order confirmations, invoices or purchase orders using One-Click, the user will have an option to leverage the Seradex mail form instead of an Outlook email.

If you’d like to cut additional license costs for Excel or Outlook installations, let us know and we’ll answer all your questions on how to make that happen.

    Important Announcements

    Microsoft Excel ActiveX Security Settings

We have been receiving reports of cases where individual users are not able to create configured order lines as expected. For example, while it appears the configurator processes the line without error, if you check the bill of material you will see that one was not created. In each case we have reviewed so far, the root cause of the issue has been the Excel Trust Center ActiveX setting of the affected user's Excel installation. The relevant setting can be found in Excel here: Excel Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > ActiveX settings

If Disable all controls without notification is enabled this is the likely cause of the issue. Changing this setting to either "Enable all controls without restrictions and without prompting" or "Prompt me before enabling all controls with minimal restrictions" should restore the expected behaviour. However, if the issue persists please contact Seradex support.

    Supported Software

Support for SQL Server versions 2008, 2008R2, 2012 and 2014 has been discontinued. Also, support for sxRuntime.mdb and the classic Visual Basic 6 forms has been discontinued. If you are still using any of these technologies, while you will be able to update your license, you will not be able to download software updates until you migrate to supported sofware. We will assist you with this migration; please submit a support ticket to get started.
