OrderStream Installation Preparation

Minimum PC Requirements

Before installing Active.ERP on either a Server, or on a Workstation, a minimum set of requirements need to be met for both. The table below demonstrates the minimum requirements for both a server, and a workstation.

Server

Workstation

With today's technology always changing it is impossible to state an exact minimum for a server. Our theory is as long was your server is less than 3 years of age it will run OrderStream.
The required specifications will change depending on how many concurrent users there are on the system.

Prior to installing OrderStream ensure that the installation pre-requisites identified in the SIM Checklist have been met.

Addressing Performance Concerns

If you prefer you can have your network support organization perform this service. If there are performance concerns about Seradex, a logical and systematic approach must be used to isolate and define the issues. Issues such as a defective network cable or network card can be time consuming and expensive to diagnose and correct. It is crucial that the minimum hardware requirements be met. If you desire, Seradex can be retained for a complete system check or your internal network technician can complete this task.

Performance Tips

Defragment volumes regularly with Diskeeper (Do not if running SSD's)
Remove every network protocol except TCP / IP  - Note: IPX Protocols will have a negative impact on the performance of Seradex Applications.
Remove all unnecessary services.
Make sure the DSN connection for sxRuntime is set to run locally (on C:\ Drive) and not on the network.
Ask your Network support organization for any recommendations.

Network

Networks are not static so review your network files and application-serving demands periodically (at least two times per year) to ensure it remains appropriately configured.

Consider increasing workstation RAM and/or processing power. As your workstation needs change so should your system. Heavy use demands high-end configurations.

Consider installing multiple network cards (NICs) on your server (ideally, 1 for every 10-15 users). This can greatly reduce the bottleneck that can occur from frequent querying and updating.

Many software utilities exist that can allow the various cards to "point" to one TCP/IP address facilitating this for systems using TCP/IP as the connection protocol. Most Controllers now have built-in load-distribution management software to take full advantage of multi-NIC configurations.

Ensure all workstation network cards, cabling and hubs are upgraded to 100-Base-T network platform.

Apply appropriate Service Packs and hot-fixes to the workstations' OS and ensure the correct drivers (for Network Cards, etc.) are being used.

Prior to Installation

At all times it is recommended for you to observe good PC hygiene. Check that your equipment meets the minimum hardware and networking requirements required for Seradex.

Insure that the recent service packs have been installed for the following:

Server Operating System (e.g. Windows 2003, Windows 2003 R2, Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2)
PC Operating System for Win XP, Vista, Windows 7 (Win 95 , 98, Win ME and Windows 2000 are not supported by Seradex)
Microsoft Office (2000, XP, 2003, 2007)

Empty Recycled Folder
Run Reg Clean Utility (On Install CD)
Run Scan Disk
Check Disk Space
orecommended 1 gigabyte free on server
o250 megabyte free on PCs
