Option C:  Linked Server Database

Previous Page  Next Page

Option C is for Seradex Active.ERP 6.2/OrderStream 2007 and later and it is another way to setup the linked access database.  It has many benefits as you do not need to go through all the security setup that is required by Option A.

Setup Procedure

1.Create a Blank Access Database called SQLLink.mdb (or any name you desire).  Place the new database you created anywhere on your server; it does not have to be local to the SQL server unlike Option A.  You must grant rights to the folder.  If you do not want users to have rights to the entire drive, place the database in a sub folder.  Alternatively, you could place it where your Seradex system files are located on your server.

NOTE:  If you are on Multi Company, you must create one Access Database per Company and each one must point to the appropriate Accounting data for that company.  Keep all of them inside the same folder

2.Now that you have the database in place, you may proceed to link in the Appropriate Accounting system tables.  Note any ODBC connection you use must be setup on every machine that is going to run update accounts or it will not work.  Refer to the appropriate section for your Accounting System to see how to link tables to an access database.

3.Find the full path to the database. Note this must be a path that all users who are required to run update accounts can see from their local machine.

Take that FULL path and enter it in your sxRuntime Database.  To do this, open up the sxRuntime database for that company, then open the Databases table. Enter the FULL path of the Access database in the LinkedServerName field.  You can use UNC naming if you do not have a mapped drive.

4.If you are on Multi Company repeat the above for each company.
