Product Lines:  A Definition

A product line is comprised of a family of like items from your catalogue of items for sale. Items can be combined within a product line when they share the same properties and characteristics. For instance: a furniture manufacturer may choose to divide their items into product lines of tables, desks, cabinets and hutches. Tables are further broken down into product lines by table type; round, square, rectangular and boardroom.

 

The creation of a product line includes properties that are appropriate to all members of the product line.  Product lines are created and associated to its respective properties via the Product Line Maintenance form accessed through the Utilities section of the OrderStream profile bar. Click on the Configurator Setup icon to open the form shown below.

Product Line Maintenance Field Reference

 

Field Name

Function

Product Line:

Name of your product line

Description:

Description of the product line

Excel Sheet Name:

Name of the excel file linked to the product line (do not included the .xls)

Default Tax Group:

When this product line is sold, what tax group should be applied.

Order UOM:

The default order unit of measure

Pricing UOM:

The default pricing unit of measure

Location:

The inventory location that the product line should exist at. IE finished goods.

Commission Paid:

When the product line is sold, do commission rules apply?

Default Product Line:

When a Configurator is launched, should it start with this configuration?

Resort Properties:

Used to resort the position of the properties linked to the product line. Warning, resorting the properties of a product line can    have unexpected results. Be sure to back up your database and related excel sheets. If you are unsure, contact Seradex technical support for more information.

Comments:

Can be used to store notes/comments related to this product line. These comments can then be used for reporting purposes.

Harmonization Code:

Harmonization code (nafta code) that applies to the product line for exporting purposes.

Report Group:

Can be used to group like product lines together from a custom reporting point of view.

Inv GL Account:

Inventory GL account for the product line

WIP GL Account:

The WIP (Work in Process) GL account for the product line.

Var GL Account:

The Variance GL account for the item.

Picture

A Bitmap of the product line can be linked to the product line. This bitmap can be used on custom reports.

Inventory Tracking:

None: Product line is never tracked in inventory.

Regular: Product line is tracked as it moves through the inventory controls.

Lot Tracked: Mutiple qtys of the exact same product line can share a common tracking identification number.

Serial Tracked: Each individual product that is created is given a unique serial number within the system and is tracked by that number.

You also have the option via a check box on the Save Order Line message box to choose not to display the message "Line 1 successfully saved".
